HEATHER

Born in Worcestershire, Heather grew up surrounded by horses and was a keen pony club competitor in all team events including show jumping and eventing, as well as hunting most weekends.  Heather started her career in racing at the British Racing School, which was then based at Goodwood House in West Sussex.

Her first position in racing was working for Nadine Smith who provided Heather with her first ride when she finished second in a hurdle race at Fontwell Park. This was the stepping stone in her successful riding career where she notched up 42 Point to Point winners and 2 winners under rules. Heathers riding career was cut short through injury so she decided to begin training.

Heather began by training point to point horses in 1994, with around 150 winners under her belt from a small team of horses in six years the hard work was really beginning to pay off.

With a lot of moral support from owners Heather took out a public licence in 2000. During her first twelve months of training, she was lucky enough to enjoy four winners in forty minutes on a spring Bank Holliday Monday.

In November 2004 Heather managed another triumph with a mixed treble. McQueen won on the flat at Redcar, Malmo Boy won over hurdles at Plumpton and Bearaway won over Fences at Warwick.

Her most recent high profile success came at Aintree in May 2008. Marufo and Victor Daly completed a fantastic double resulting in Heather being hailed Queen of Aintree.
